Poker Training Guide
The one thing that you need to constantly do when you’re playing poker is continue your education as a player or else you’re going to fall behind the rest of the competition. A large percentage of poker players spend time learning new strategies and techniques that help them win money. If you only learn the basics and nothing else then you’re not going to be a very good poker player. With all of the different methods for training your poker skills nowadays there really isn’t any reason why you can’t learn more about the game. We’re going to take a quick look below at a few of the most popular ways poker players train.
Poker Books
The oldest method for improving your poker game is by reading any of the popular poker books on the market. Poker players have been writing books for decades now and without books many of us wouldn’t be the poker players that we are today. Some of the best poker players in the world including Phil Hellmuth, Doyle Brunson and Dan Harrington have all written books that teach new players and veteran player’s strategies for improving their game.
Before you start reading poker books you need to make sure you check out some reviews on the internet. There are countless poker book reviews out there and many of them are very detailed. You’ll be able to learn exactly what the books are about before you buy them which is important. You don’t want to buy a book about the basics of poker when you’re trying to learn advanced Texas Holdem techniques.
Poker Training Websites
One of the newest ways for poker players to train their skills is through online poker training websites. The poker training websites out there nowadays are all basically done with videos which is great because most people don’t like reading nowadays. I find that you can learn more from videos as well since you get to see first hand experiences from other players with your own eyes.
Poker training websites such as PokerStars.net often have a monthly subscription fee that you need to pay in order to access the website. Most of the training websites are updated often so the fee is generally worth it, but if you find after awhile the updates start to slow down or become repetitive you can always just stop your membership. There are a couple poker training review websites out there where you can see how consumers have rated each of the websites. Obviously you want to join a training website that has a lot of good reviews rather then an un-established website.
The last way you can learn how to play poker is through forums which most people don’t utilize. There are plenty of poker forums out there, but only a couple of them are worth your time. A few of the poker forums have thousands of poker players that share experiences, strategies and tips with other PokerStars players and this is one of the best ways to become a better poker player. Best of all this method is completely free and the only expense is the time you spend improving your game.
